Rawhinia and Astar's 12 Birthday
Getting to know us

This is our first year of High School.

We are in year 8 and this is the first year for us to be Home Schooled. We have been asking mum to Home Educate us for High School all through Primary School. You see Primary School was Intellectually boring, don't get us wrong we liked going to school but school work was just too simple. Fortunately for us mum used to work in schools and putting together an education program for us wasn't too hard for her.
We can tell you it's great. Finally we can work at our own pace. We go to the local High School two mornings a week to join in their Arts program. One afternoon a week we are doing the "Duke of Edinburgh" program at another high school, and we are also in a youth orchestra. We do English and Maths on our laptops. We are learning Italian for LOTE. We do SOSE, science, technology, health HPE, home economics, composition, music theory, and of course, violin. Also we are lucky enough to have our own green-house for organic gardening (this is great because we are vegetarian). So as you can see we have a full life.

Mum has written a bit about why we are doing home schooling.

Tune in soon  A & R

Let me tell you a little about my beautiful girls

Astar doing Home Ec

Astar has the ability to learn at a much higher speed than most other children, she only needs to be shown, told or read something once for her to retain the information. Due to this Astar has found most areas of primary school boring to the point of only going to school for social reasons.  Astar has always received high marks in all subjects through primary school with distinctions in the areas of Math, English and Science. She has also received high distinctions in Technology, Computers and Music through primary school. Other than music, and helping others, Astar’s interests are writing, math, design, art, yoga, natural health, nature and reading all of which Astar enjoys in her spare time. Astar has a very outgoing personality and last year she was chosen to be a leader for the school that she attended.  Astar is a strong and mature humanitarian who achieves whatever she sets her mind to. She also has a wonderful sense of humour.
Rawhinia doing Home Ec

Rawhinia has a photographic memory and as a result she has received extremely high marks in all areas of primary schooling. Rawhinia has struggled through primary school as she found it dull and did not see the point in going, except for sport and social interaction. Throughout primary school Rawhinia has received high distinctions in Math, English, Science, Technology and Music. Other than music, and helping others, Rawhinia’s interests are literature, conservation, math, yoga, reading, writing, art, physics, cellular structure, physical exercise and nature. In her spare time Rawhinia sets her self study areas and thoroughly enjoys learning everything that she can about the chosen area. Rawhinia’s personality is not as outgoing as her sister but she is very social. Rawhinia was also chosen to be a leader for the school that she attended last year. Rawhinia is an intelligent, passionate sensitive person who strives to do her best at all times.
So as you can see the choice to home educate Astar and Rawhinia was easily made.
